Safety

Security:

If leaving the property during the night, ensure you lock the apartment and do not leave any valuable belongings like computers, phones, tablets, jewelry laying around and close to the windows- we live in a quiet and safe neighborhood, but better safe than sorry. Keep windows closed when it rains or when leaving home, otherwise it might get wet inside. The desk has a lockable storage for valuables.

Alarm:

The apartment doors are equipped with an alarm system, magnetic sensor, with remote control. Press button to arm it. It has also a stress button. Press it to make us alert if it is an emergency.

Fire:

The apartment is equipped with a fire extinguisher in the kitchen area and one in the entrance area and a smoke detector. If you can´t handle the fire, leave the apartment immediately and contact us and /or the fire department. Read the emergency plan carefully. The owner is trained in fire safety.

Gas:

In case you detect any gas smell do not light a fire or turn on lights, leave the apartment and keep the door open. Inform us immediately.

Eco-Tips

A/C:

The apartment has A/C. Please shut the inside glass windows when using it, otherwise you are cooling the environment and not the apartment. Please turn the A/C off when leaving the apartment. As the house is painted with reflective paint, the apartment doesn’t warm up as quickly and it takes only minutes for the A/C to reduce the temperature.

Electricity:

Electricity is expensive in Belize and we try to save energy. Therefor the apartment has LED lights. Please do not replace them yourself with regular bulbs.

The hot water is provided by an on demand electric water heater. It might take a little while as the cold water in the pipes has to be replaced before it gets hot. Please use it conservatively.

We do get power outages, there is nothing we can do about it. In case of an outage there is a rechargeable backup flash light in the unit.

However to protect appliances from power surges, the fridge and the TV are plugged into surge protectors and not directly to the outlet. Please keep it that way, and we recommend using surge protectors for your own electrical equipment or to unplug it during storms.

There is an outdoor motion sensor light at the door- please leave the switch on unless you do not want it while sitting in the garden.

Butane gas:

The stove works with Butane gas. Please let us know if you need a refill.

Water:

You can drink tap water. We have public water which is of good quality and we additionally filter it. Please use it conservatively, as the source is an aquifer that sustains the whole peninsula and it is a limited resource.

In case of a power outage the water pump will shut off if the water pressure drops to 0, it needs to be manually restarted- which means if it was during the night, you might not have water till the morning.

Toilet:

You can dispose toilet paper in the toilet. Do not dispose any other garbage, sanitary pads, tampons, baby wipes, condoms etc. into the toilet as this will create troubles, blocking, etc. for our septic system.

Garbage:

The trash bin is next to the electrical pole at the parking. Please put your trash in plastic bags (quite useful are the plastic bags you get your groceries in), tie them up and always put the cover back on the trash bin including the cement block, (otherwise the raccoons have party time). Trash pickup is Tuesdays and Saturdays morning.

Cleaning:

We do not provide a cleaning service. Please use the cleaning agents and cleaning utensils made available to you. We can also arrange a cleaning service if desired at additional charge. We provide clean linens and towels once a week or upon request.

Laundry:

You can do your laundry on premise, for the use we charge BZD 8.00 per load. We don’t have a dryer, use cloth lines on the property. Please do not do laundry in the washing basins in your apartment.

Iron and iron board:

An Iron and an iron board is available free of charge. Please ask the owners.

Health Tips

Insects:

To keep them from annoying you in the apartment keep the screen door closed, especially during dusk and dawn, keep the apartment clean etc. You can use insect coils or candles especially in the garden to keep mosquitos and “no seems” away.

First Aid & Pharmacy:

You have a small first aid kit in the bathroom. You can find over the counter drugs in every supermarket. There is one pharmacy in Seine Bight at Publics and a better stocked one in Placencia Village across Top Value Supermarket.

Clinic:

There are two doctors as well as a dental clinic in Placencia. Please find the phone numbers subsequently. For more severe issues- there is the hospital in Dangriga for emergencies, but we recommend going to Belize City to one of the two private clinics.

Communication

Internet Network: ARRIS-FEB2 Passcode: Simbert1!

The internet is free of charge & wireless. Supplier is Southern Cable Network. We get down times. Please notify us if the internet is not working, however if it is on SCN side we can´t do anything, but being patient. There is no internet when we have a power outage.

TV:

You have cable TV with major US-channels. To watch TV, turn on the dibo-box (small black box) with the large remote control (SCN is written on it on the bottom) and turn on the TV with the other remote control. Press “GUIDE” to select your channel. Use “CH” up and down button to make menu page switches, use up/down arrow button (above and below the OK button) to go channel by channel.

Wildlife

We are sure you will love the idyllic wild life around the apartments as we do:

You can see Iguanas, Agoutis (Bush Rabbits), Raccoons, Chakalakas, and plenty of other birds on a regular basis. Treat them with respect and if you wish you can feed them with fruit leftovers, however bear in mind that if you leave anything too close to the apartments it will attract ants, etc.

There are, as we are in a subtropical environment, insects, spiders, scorpions and other critters as well.

Local Tips

Parking:

You can use the parking area next to the house or at the end of the road.

Noise:

We are a quiet neighborhood, but no walking dead either. Use common sense and keep the noise outside and inside (TV and music volume) down, especially between 10pm and 7am.

Tours:

If you need any recommendations or you would like to book tours, flights, rental cars, bikes, golf carts, buy property etc. we are more than happy to assist you. Bikes are for rent at the property for an additional fee of BZD 20.00 per bike per day.

Beach:

There is a common beach area just to the left across Coconut Walk Road. Resorts like Maya Beach Resort and Belize Ocean Club have great beaches and pools. You are always welcome there to use their amenities when food and drinks are consumed.

Shopping:

A small local grocery store is to the right on the main road and the super market is 2 min to the left on the main road, right next to the police station. Maya Beach Hotel and Green Parrot offer a small gift shop section. In Placencia you´ll find plenty of gift shops as well as supermarkets with a larger variety.

Eating out:

10 min north is the famous Maya Beach Bistro. 2 Minutes to the right on the main road is the Singing Sands Resort/Bonefish Grille. Of course there are a couple more restaurants in Maya Beach and on the way to/ in Placencia, please ask for recommendations.
